The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has said that they have eliminated the mastermind of the October 7 attacks last year.
Yahya Sinwar has been killed after hiding in the tunnels for more than one year.
The IDF also released video footage of Sinwar’s last moments as a proof of his elimination.
US officials said that the killing of Sinwar has provided us a rare opportunity to advance with a possible ceasefire in the strip.
Who Was Yahya Sinwar?
Yahya Sinwar was a senior leader of Hamas, a group he joined in the 1980s.
He was regarded as the top military strategist for the group and has remained its leader after Heniyeh’s death in Iran.
After the October 7 attacks, he became a key target for Israel, labeled “the butcher from Khan Younis.”
While it’s too soon to suggest what would happen next, the killing of its leader will either strengthen Hamas to target Israel or it will disintegrate as a group.
