Israeli authorities have arrested an Israeli citizen suspected of involvement in an Iranian plot to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top officials.
Authorities said the suspect received payments from his handlers in Iran to target political officials in Israel.
Suspect is A Businessman
The individual, a businessman with Turkish contacts, was arrested last month after reportedly meeting with Iranian intelligence agents.
He was allegedly asked to conduct security missions within Israel, including assassinating Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar.
The plot also discussed targeting former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in retaliation for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, an act Iran attributes to Israel.
Suspect Was Paid $5,600
The suspect reportedly demanded $1 million for his involvement and was paid $5,600 for the meetings.
Israel’s Shin Bet agency described the case as an example of Iran’s efforts to recruit Israeli citizens for terrorist activities.
