Starbucks New Boss Under Fire For 1,600km Office Commute

Brian Niccol, the incoming CEO of Starbucks, has sparked controversy due to his plans to commute nearly 1,600 kilometers to the company’s headquarters every day.

The newly announced CEO will travel all the way from his home in Newport Beach, California, to Seattle, where the company’s headquarters are located, a job offer revealed.

Environmentalists Criticize Niccol

This has raised concerns over the environmental impact of his travel, especially given Starbucks’ public take on environmental issues.

The BBC report mentioned that traveling every day to office via a private jet can emit tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Critics also questioned whether Niccol will adhere to Starbucks’ three-day office work policy or work remotely for three days a week.

Critics also mentioned the lifestyle disparity that exists among the low-level employees and Starbucks executives.

Andrew Speke, a spokesperson for High Pay Centre said using a private jet sends a negative message to not just customers but to ordinary employees working in the company.
