Video streaming platform YouTube has stopped playing videos in Russia after a technical glitch was reported in the system.
Russian News Agency TASS confirmed that one of its correspondents has checked and the problem persists.
The correspondent confirmed that when accessing YouTube, a message pops up saying the device has no internet or it takes the user to the YouTube app.
Russia Blames YouTube
Russian telecommunications operator Rostelecom blamed Google, YouTube’s owner, for using systems that have technical problems.
Rostelecom said the tech giant has failed to renovate its equipment since 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine.
According to the Moscow Times, the YouTube outage began on August 1 and has affected Android and iOS users.
5,000 Complaints Received
More than 5,000 complaints have been registered against the outage which has caused outcry in major Russian cities.
Reports mentioned that the problem is present in both the desktop version and the mobile version.
