The leader of Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh has been assassinated in the Iranian capital of Tehran, causing concerns about the escalation of conflict.
According to Iranian state TV, Haniyeh was in Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new President.
The Palestinian leader was assassinated by a missile strike that hit a a hotel residence where he was staying, media reports say.
No Comment By Israel
Although Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for the Haniyeh’s assassination, the Israeli government has not responded to the development.
Political experts believe that the death of the Hamas leader could widen the already deteriorated situation in the Middle East.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told reporters that the assassination was something that the US government was not aware of, nor were they are involved.
Iran Vows Revenge
In response to the latest attack, the Iranian supreme leader vowed to avenge the killing of Hamas leader inside Iran.
Iran declared three days of national mourning but what the country would do next, is yet to be confirmed.
