According to Turkish health ministry data released on Wednesday, Turkey registered at least 276 new deaths in the last 24 hours, the largest number of deaths in a single day since the start of the pandemic.
In the last 24 hours, Turkey has reported at least 54,740 new COVID-19 cases. This is a record high in daily cases since the start of the pandemic.
Turkey’s total number of death is at least 32,943.
As the pandemic continues, there are new hotspots forming just like Turkey which has been seeing new records.
In the US, nearly half of the new COVID-19 cases are from 5 states. In the most recent seven-day stretch, New York, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey registered 44 percent of the nation’s new COVID-19 infections or about 197,500 new cases. Even though New York and New Jersey were hotspots at the beginning of the pandemic, the number of new cases had gone down. But again, they are seeing a spike in new cases.
In the world, other countries are also seeing record numbers. Brazil has more than 4,000 deaths in 24 hours for the first time. The country’s total death toll is now almost 337,000, second only to the US. India registered more than 100,000 new cases in a day. After seeing hospitalizations spike, Ontario province in Canada has issued a stay-at-home order.
The total global case of COVID-19 has surpassed over 132 million and the death total is over 2.8 million.
In other news, the US has administrated more than 171 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the CDC, more than 109 million people (about 33% of the population) have received the first dose of the vaccine while more than 64 million people (about 19% of the population) have received the second dose.
More than 693 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in at least 165 countries and territories.
