Authorities in Australia have seized thousands of rare bird eggs worth $500,000.
Police seized a collection of more than 3,400 eggs after a joint investigation into the illegal bird trade.
The environmental crime investigators said that most of the eggs belonged to rare and endangered birds and selling or smuggling them is illegal under the International Law.
Man Being Investigated
Meanwhile, the authorities are interrogating a 62-year-old man for alleged links with the crime organization but no arrests have been made so far.
Officials claimed that “[The man] is alleged to have been involved in the collection and harvesting of bird eggs from the wild”.
Eggs Are Worth $500,000
The total worth of the egg is estimated to be around $500,000, just a little fraction of the billion-dollar industry.
Investigators said they will work more closely with relevant agencies to bust networks behind this illegal and immoral trade.
