Donald Trump has made a maiden visit to Capitol Hill three years after his supporters stormed it on 6 January 2019.
The leading Republican nominee for the upcoming presidential election emphasized party unity during his visit, stating his commitment to resolving any differences within the GOP.
Return To Crime Scene
Former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized Trump’s visit, calling him the “instigator of an insurrection… returning to the scene of the crime.”
This visit follows Trump’s recent criminal conviction for falsifying business records in his hush-money trial in New York.
On Thursday morning, Trump arrived at a Republican office building near the US Capitol, greeted by a small crowd of protesters with signs like “failed coup” and “Trump Never.”
Mr. Trump didn’t take any questions from reporters waiting for him outside the GOP building but gestured a thumbs up.
The move could be seen as a show of force after the former President’s conviction in the hush money criminal case.
