UK Ambassador Leaves Position After Gun Photo Goes Viral

The United Kingdom’s ambassador to Mexico has reportedly left his position after his photo showing him pointing a gun at his staff went viral.

Neither Mr. Jon Benjamin nor the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) released any statements, but reports suggest that the diplomat had left his position after the video went viral.

The Content of The Video

The video, which was first reported by the Financial Times, showed a man who resembles Benjamin pointing a real gun at a staff member.

The other staff members appear to joke as the diplomat looks through the scope of the gun.

“In a context of daily killings in Mexico by drug dealers, he dares to joke,” wrote the account who shared the video initially.

According to the reports, the top British diplomat was on his trip to Durango and Sinaloa, two Mexican states with the highest crime stats.

The British Foreign Office did tell the FT that they were aware of this incident and have taken appropriate action.
