China is set to release a journalist it had arrested back in 2020 for covering the developments related to Covid-19 virus.
Zhang Zhan, a former lawyer and a journalist, was arrested when she started covering the Chinese government’s response to the Covid pandemic.
Zhang is expected to be released on Monday, according to news reports.

The Chinese authorities at the time said Zhang’s case was handled strictly as she gave interviews to enemy media, meaning US-funded Radio Free Asia.
Zhang’s former lawyer said Zhang’s only mistake was to go, collect important information and put them on twitter.
Pro-Zhang activists and journalists think that even if released, Zhang will not regain her total freedom as her movement will be monitored by the state.
