A man who set himself on fire outside the Manhattan court where President Donald Trump’s hush-money trial is taking place has died.
The New York City police said Maxwell Azzarello, 37, threw conspiracy-theory pamphlets into the air and poured a flammable liquid over himself before being transferred to a nearby hospital.
Trump Left Building Before Incident
Although Mr. Trump was present to face trial, he left the building before the incident occurred.
The CBS News reported that the protester Maxwell was rushed to the hospital in critical condition on Friday and later succumbed to his injuries.
The NYC police confirmed early on Saturday that Mr. Azzarello had died at the hospital due to injuries caused by fire.
Suspect Had No Criminal Record
Mr. Azzarello, who had no criminal record in New York, had traveled from Florida to New York recently without his family’s knowledge.
Chief Jeffrey Maddrey of the New York Police said Mr. Azzarello was distributing “propaganda-based” pamphlets related to a conspiracy theory before setting himself on fire.
