A former informant for the Federal Investigation Agency has been charged for lying about President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden’s ties to a Ukrainian energy firm.
The New York Times reported that the Special Counsel charged Alexander Smirnov for fabricating claims that Biden and his son each sought $5 million bribes from a Ukrainian energy company named Burisma.
Smirnov Lied To FBI
The NYT report claimed that Smirnov lied to the FBI that executives from Burisma said they hired Hunter Biden to protect them, “through his dad, from all kinds of problems”.
Smirnov could face up to 25 years in prison for fabricating facts, if proven guilty.
Republicans Proved Wrong
The charges against Smirnov had undermined the credibility of Republicans who accused President Biden of indulging in corruption.
“Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said the indictment vindicated months of warnings that Republicans were engaging in conspiracy theories”, Al-Jazeera reported.
