One man died and another one got injured when a whale struck their boat in Australia. The two men were fishing when their boat was hit by a whale in waters off La Perouse, 14 km of Sydney. People on another boat raised the alarm when they saw the unoccupied vessel in the water, police reported.

The boat was on a fishing expedition when a huge whale came and hit the rare side of it at about 6am local time. One of the men, aged 61, was found unconscious and died when brought to the shore. Numerous whale species inhabit Australia’s coastline but such tragic incidents are rare. Water Police Acting Superintendent Siobhan Munro said the incident was unfortunate and praised the man in the hospital who tried to save his companion.
