A Dutch non-profit organization has collected an enormous amount of plastic waste from the Pacific Ocean. The Ocean Cleanup posted on twitter that it has collected 200,000 kilograms of plastic garbage from areas in between California and Hawaii.

The non-profit organization, The Ocean Cleanup, was founded in 2013 in the Netherlands by Dutch inventor and entrepreneur Boyan Slat. The objective of the organization is to clean up earth’s oceans, which has been of enormous importance to humans and animal species alike. The organization has a team of expert engineers and scientists, working on-stop to clean the oceans from 80 million kilograms of garbage.
Economic Impact Of Ocean Garbage
According to the Ocean Cleanup’s website, the annual cost of marine plastic pollution is around $6-18 billion. The costs arise due to the adverse effects of plastic on various sectors such as tourism, diseases, fisheries, birth defects and aquaculture.
