The tech giant is set to cut 18,000 jobs. The announcement is the most significant among recent layoffs that have impacted the US tech industry. After announcing just 8,000 layoffs in November 2022, Amazon has increased the toll to 18,000.
“Economic Uncertainty”
Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy in a statement said that they had to downsize due to the situation of “economic uncertainty”. It is also reconsidering to shut down some projects including the personal delivery robot service and Alexa. Jassy also said that workforce from Europe will bear the brunt of the recent job cuts without mentioning workforce from other regions.
Cuts On Rise In Tech Industry
Tens of thousands of jobs have already been lost in the worldwide technology sector as a result of decreasing sales and mounting worries about a recession. Meta decreased its workforce by 13% in November of 2022. Twitter fired half of its workforce when Elon Musk took over the platform.
