Donald Trump was banned from the platform on 6 January 2021 when a mob of his supporters charged the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. He was banned due to inciting violence after he lost the 2020 elections. Donald Trump had 88 million followers before he was banned from the platform.
Twitter Polls
Elon Musk reactivated the account after running a Twitter poll for the ex-president. Around 52%, out of 15 million, voted in the favor of reactivating his account. “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated,” Elon Musk tweeted hours after the polls. Musk acknowledged that the polls might have been influenced by “bots” too and he will work “to clean up future polls”.
Trump Unlikely To Return
In response to the reactivation of his account, Trump seems unlikely to return to the platform. “I don’t see any reason for it,” he said while responding to a question being asked at the annual meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition’s leadership.
