East Asia Braces For Typhoon After Philippines Landslides Kill 15

East Asia braces for destructive typhoon as landslides kill 15 in Philippines.

How do you prepare for a storm as wide as an entire country?

Across East Asia, millions are racing against the clock as Typhoon Bavi barrels toward land, already leaving a deadly trail behind.

In the southern Philippines, landslides triggered by the powerful storm have killed at least 15 people, with rescue teams still searching for those missing.

Meanwhile, Bavi—stretching nearly 1,000km across the Pacific—is heading toward Taiwan before expected landfalls in southeastern China.

Authorities aren’t taking chances. Taiwan has placed 29,000 troops on standby.

Flights have been cancelled, classes suspended, and some areas warned they could receive up to one metre of rain.

Warning Issued Across Region

“Don’t be fooled by the nice and calm weather now,” fisherman Chen Ming-hui warned. “A storm like this could be the most terrifying.”

China is also bracing for impact, with experts warning the typhoon’s enormous size could push heavy rain far into northern provinces that rarely face storms of this scale.

Japan’s remote Sakishima Islands have boarded up homes, while airlines across the region have grounded hundreds of flights.

The threat comes just days after Typhoon Maysak devastated parts of southern China, killing dozens and forcing mass evacuations.

Nature rarely repeats itself in exactly the same way—but it always reminds us who’s really in charge.
