A major industrial accident in Qatar’s key energy hub has raised fresh concerns after an explosion at a factory left dozens injured and several people missing.
Qatar’s Interior Ministry said the blast in Ras Laffan Industrial City was caused by a “technical accident.”
The incident injured 54 people, while rescue teams continued searching for 18 missing individuals.
The area is home to Qatar’s vital liquefied natural gas operations, making the accident especially significant.
QatarEnergy confirmed that the explosion happened at its Barzan gas supply facility during the start-up of operations.
Industrial Fire Sparks Investigation
Emergency crews quickly moved in to control the fire, and officials said there was no dangerous leak threatening public safety.
But the scale of the incident was impossible to ignore.
From nearby areas, witnesses reported seeing flames lighting up the night sky and a large cloud of smoke rising above the industrial zone.

Why did it happen? Authorities are still investigating. For now, the focus remains on finding those missing and supporting the injured.
Pakistan’s embassy in Qatar also expressed solidarity with the country, highlighting the international attention surrounding the accident.
In a place that powers global energy markets, even a “technical issue” can quickly become a major concern.
