Lebanese Government Accuses Israel of Killing Journalist In Airstrike

Lebanon accuses Israel of targeting journalist killed in airstrike.

What happens when the people documenting war become its victims?

That’s the question echoing out of southern Lebanon after journalist Amal Khalil was killed and photographer Zeinab Faraj injured in Israeli airstrikes.

Lebanese officials say the two were first caught near a strike, then hit again while taking shelter—raising a troubling claim: was this deliberate?

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam didn’t mince words.

“Targeting journalists… constitutes war crimes,” he said, accusing Israel Defense Forces of an “established approach” against media workers.

Officials also allege a marked ambulance was blocked—and even fired upon—while trying to reach them.

Journalists Under Fire

Israel tells a different story. The IDF insists it does not target journalists.

And says the strike focused on vehicles linked to Hezbollah that posed an “immediate threat.”

So where does the truth lie? Advocacy groups like Committee to Protect Journalists say the pattern is alarming.

“Repeated strikes… and obstruction of medical access” may signal serious violations of international law.

And this isn’t an isolated case. Multiple journalists have been killed in recent weeks as the conflict intensifies.

In war, information is power. But if those reporting the truth are increasingly in the crosshairs, one question lingers: who will be left to tell the story?
