Balendra Shah’s Party Wins Nepal Election In Landslide

Nepal election results - Balendra Shah's party wins in a landslide.

Could Nepal be entering a new political era—led by a rapper-turned-politician?

That’s exactly what the latest election results suggest.

The party founded by former Balendra Shah has secured a commanding victory in Nepal’s general election.

His party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, captured 182 out of 275 seats in parliament—an overwhelming majority rarely seen in the country’s complex electoral system.

The vote, held on 5 March, followed months of political turmoil.

Massive youth-led protests in 2025 forced the resignation of the government led by K. P. Sharma Oli.

Now Shah could be poised to replace him. If confirmed, the former Kathmandu mayor—popularly known as “Balen”—would become Nepal’s youngest prime minister.

The scale of the victory surprised many. The long-dominant Nepali Congress finished a distant second with just 38 seats.

While the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) managed 25.

Analysts say the results reflect a powerful generational shift.

Youth Election Surge

Political commentator Amish Raj Mulmi noted that many winners were under 40, suggesting voters are turning away from traditional elites.

The election itself was a logistical feat. With more than 80% of Nepal mountainous, ballot boxes often travel by foot, helicopter—or sometimes both.

Now comes the real test. Winning an election is one thing.

Turning protest energy into lasting reform? That’s a much tougher climb—even in the Himalayas.
