A Hollywood tragedy that feels almost impossible to process. How does a family story end like this?
Prosecutors in Los Angeles have charged Nick Reiner with the murders of his parents — legendary filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.
The 32-year-old faces two counts of first-degree murder.
He also faces a special circumstance alleging multiple killings.
This is a charge that could lead to life in prison without parole or even the death penalty if he’s convicted.
Authorities say the couple were found dead in their Brentwood home with multiple stab wounds.
Prosecutors have also alleged that a knife was used.
Reiner Family Tragedy
District Attorney Nathan Hochman said key details — including whether the death penalty will be sought — will be revealed in court.
Reiner has not yet entered a plea and is expected to appear once he is medically cleared.
“This case is heartbreaking and deeply personal,” said LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, noting the shock has rippled far beyond the Reiner family.

Rob Reiner’s career spanned classics like The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men.
Michele Reiner was a creative force in her own right — an actress, photographer, and producer.
In a joint tribute, friends including Billy Crystal and Larry David remembered the couple as “dynamic, unselfish, and inspiring.”
Fame may light up the screen. This tragedy is a stark reminder: behind every legend is a very human story. And sometimes, unbearable loss.
