Man Charged After Allegedly Swallowing $19k Fabergé Egg

Man charged with theft over claims he swallowed $19k Fabergé egg.

A New Zealand man is facing theft charges after allegedly pulling off one of the strangest jewellery heists imaginable.

He swallowed the loot — yes, literally.

Police say the missing treasure is no ordinary trinket: it’s a Fabergé egg locket worth NZ$33,585 ($19,300).

It is encrusted with 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires.

And the kicker? It hasn’t been recovered yet. Understandably.

Officers were called to Partridge Jewellers in downtown Auckland last Friday, and the 32-year-old suspect was arrested just minutes later.

He’s already undergone a medical check and remains in custody — though the whereabouts of the egg remain… internal.

Bizarre Theft Details

The locket, called the Octopussy egg, opens to reveal an 18-carat gold miniature octopus.

It was inspired by the 1983 James Bond film about, fittingly, a Fabergé egg heist. You really can’t make this stuff up.

Fabergé, known worldwide for its ornate gem-studded eggs, has been crafting luxury pieces for more than 200 years. Usually not meant for digestion.

The suspect is set to appear in court again on 8 December.

And this isn’t his first run-in: he’s also accused of stealing an iPad from the same store earlier in November.

Plus NZ$100 worth of cat litter and flea products.

A diamond egg, an octopus, and cat supplies — talk about a bizarre shopping list.
