Five Dead After Earthquake Strikes Bangladesh

At least five killed in Bangladesh earthquake.

Bangladesh was shaken—literally—when a 5.5 magnitude earthquake rattled the country on Friday.

It left at least five dead, including a child, and injured over 450.

The tremor’s epicentre was near Narsingdi, just 30 kilometres from Dhaka.

People sprinted from homes and offices as buildings swayed and makeshift structures crumbled.

“I have never felt such tremor in my 30 years,” said Sadman Sakib, describing panicked colleagues spilling onto the streets.

Students at Dhaka University weren’t spared either—ten were hurt in a stampede as they scrambled to safety.

Environmental adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan called it the most powerful quake in five years.

Three victims died when railings and debris fell from a five-storey building in Dhaka’s Armanitola area.

Nationwide Earthquake Impact

Meanwhile, 461 people were injured nationwide, with Gazipur reporting the highest toll.

Officials are still assessing damage, but so far, the crisis hasn’t required large-scale rescue operations.

Even across the border in eastern India, tremors were felt, though no major damage was reported.

The quake even interrupted Ireland’s second cricket test in Dhaka, halting play for three minutes.

Head coach Heinrich Malan said: “Everything stood still for a couple of minutes… we’re hoping there wasn’t too much damage.”

In a country no stranger to natural disasters, Friday’s quake was a stark reminder.

Sometimes Mother Nature refuses to play by the rules—and you just have to feel the shake.
