After Raid On Scam Hub, 1,000 Cross Border Into Thailand

Over 1,000 enter Thailand from Myanmar after scam hub raid.

What happens when a scam empire collapses overnight?

More than 1,000 people—mostly Chinese nationals—fled Myanmar into Thailand this week.

They did so after a dramatic military raid on one of the country’s biggest cyberfraud centres.

For years, these scam hubs have thrived along Myanmar’s lawless border zones.

They run everything from fake investment schemes to love scams.

Some workers were trafficked into these heavily guarded compounds.

Others joined willingly, chasing big money in a booming underground industry.

The latest exodus began after Myanmar’s army stormed KK Park, a notorious compound just across the border from Thailand.

By Friday, over a thousand people had crossed the Moei River into Thailand’s Mae Sot district.

They included nationals from Pakistan, India, Vietnam, and several African nations.

Videos showed Thai officers searching luggage, checking documents, and loading the migrants onto trucks.

Most of those fleeing were Chinese men, according to Thai immigration officials.

Myanmar’s junta confirmed it had seized Starlink satellite equipment from the site.

It was a sign of how sophisticated these scam operations had become.

One thing’s clear: in the digital underworld of Southeast Asia, the line between victim and perpetrator is getting harder to see—and even harder to escape.
