Letitia James Pleads Not Guilty In Federal Mortgage Fraud Case

Letitia James pleads not guilty in mortgage fraud case.

New York Attorney General Letitia James—the same prosecutor who once took Donald Trump to court—now finds herself on the other side of the bench.

She pleaded not guilty to federal charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution.

The brief hearing took place in Virginia on Friday.

Standing outside the courthouse, James came out swinging.

“There’s no fear today,” she said, accusing Trump of weaponizing the justice system “as a vehicle of retribution” against her and others who challenged him.

Prosecutors allege that James bought a home in Norfolk under false pretenses.

James Fights Back

They claim it would be her secondary residence when, in reality, it was being rented out.

That “misrepresentation,” they say, helped her secure a better mortgage rate.

Her defense team calls the case “vindictive.” They plan to challenge Trump-appointed prosecutor Lindsey Halligan.

Another attorney reportedly quit over lack of evidence.

James is far from the only Trump critic facing legal trouble.

Former FBI Director James Comey and ex–National Security Adviser John Bolton have also been charged in recent weeks.

For now, James is pushing back hard, her trial set for January.

As one supporter outside the courthouse shouted, “She took on Trump once—now she’s taking on his system.”
