What city is next on Donald Trump’s list for a National Guard deployment? Memphis, Tennessee.
The US President revealed the move in a sprawling Fox News interview Friday.
He called the city “deeply troubled” and insisted both the Democratic mayor and the Republican governor were “happy” about it.
If true, it’s a striking escalation. Just a month ago, Trump sent troops to patrol Washington, D.C. — a move he later hailed as making the capital “virtually crime free.”
Now Memphis, with one of the highest violent crime rates in the U.S., is in the spotlight.
“We’re going to Memphis,” Trump declared, though he didn’t give a timeline.
Mayor Rejects Trump’s Troop Plan
But Memphis Mayor Paul Young quickly pushed back. “I didn’t ask for the National Guard,” he said at a press conference.
“I don’t think it’s the way to drive down crime.” Young emphasized the city needs more money for prevention, intervention, and investigative support — not soldiers.

Legal experts warn that using military forces in civilian law enforcement can be a slippery slope.
A court even ruled Trump’s earlier deployment to Los Angeles unlawful.
Still, Trump appears undeterred. For Memphis residents, the question lingers: will boots on the ground bring peace — or more tension — to their streets?
