Elon Musk’s Firms Sue Apple, OpenAI For Hurting Competition

Musk firms sue Apple and OpenAI, alleging they hurt competition.

Elon Musk has finally made good on his threat — two of his companies, X and xAI, are taking Apple and OpenAI to court.

The claim? That the tech giants have teamed up in a way that locks out competitors and tilts the playing field.

At the heart of the lawsuit is Apple’s decision to weave OpenAI’s chatbot into iPhones and iPads.

Sounds convenient for users, right?

What’s The Reason?

Musk argues it’s anything but — calling the deal an unfair, exclusive arrangement that makes it nearly impossible for rival chatbots to compete.

His firms say the partnership gives OpenAI access to the prompts and behavior of millions of Apple users.

It also gives ChatGPT an edge in App Store rankings.

“This deal has foreclosed competition, deprived rivals of scale, and reduced innovation,” the lawsuit bluntly claims.

OpenAI fired back, dismissing the filing as “consistent with Mr. Musk’s ongoing pattern of harassment.”

Apple, for its part, is staying silent — at least for now.

It’s also a personal grudge match. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with Sam Altman.

But the partnership soured, and both men now helm rival AI empires.

With Apple controlling 65% of the smartphone market and OpenAI holding 80% of the chatbot space, the stakes are massive.

The bigger question? Is this really about protecting competition — or is it Musk’s latest shot in a very personal war?
