Times Square — the “crossroads of the world” — turned into a crime scene early Saturday when gunfire erupted just after 1 a.m.
Three people were hit, and the suspected shooter? A 17-year-old.
Police say it started with a fight outside a Raising Cane’s chicken joint. Moments later, shots rang out.
A 19-year-old man took a bullet to the foot, a 65-year-old was struck in the leg, and an 18-year-old woman was grazed in the neck. All are expected to recover.
A handgun was recovered at the scene, but charges are still pending.
What’s The Reason?
“This was a dispute that turned violent in seconds,” an NYPD source told reporters. “It could have been far worse in a place that crowded.”
It’s a jarring incident for a city that, according to police, has seen historically low gun violence in recent months.
Still, it follows last month’s deadly Midtown shooting at an office building that left four workers dead.

Meanwhile, in Washington DC, President Donald Trump is sending in federal agents to tackle what he calls “totally out of control” youth crime.
This is despite official data showing overall violent crime at its lowest in 30 years.
So, Times Square gets a shootout, DC gets more agents, and the rest of us get one big question: is this prevention or just political theater?
