What happens when one of the world’s toughest athletes faces nature at its rawest?
Germany’s double Olympic biathlon champion, Laura Dahlmeier, is now in serious condition.
She was caught in a rockfall while climbing in Pakistan’s remote Karakoram mountains.
The 31-year-old was scaling the slopes with her mountaineering partner around noon Monday, at an altitude of 5,700 meters, when disaster struck.
“Laura was caught in a rockfall,” her team confirmed. “Her partner called emergency services immediately.”

The Struggle To Rescue
But rescue wasn’t easy. Fierce weather and the isolated location delayed efforts.
A helicopter couldn’t reach her until Tuesday morning, and as darkness fell, the search was halted again, set to resume at first light.
Faizullah Faraq, a local official, said the Pakistan army has joined the mission. With weather still unpredictable, every minute counts.
Dahlmeier isn’t just any athlete. She made history in 2018, becoming the first woman to win both sprint and pursuit biathlon events at a single Olympics.
Add seven World Championship golds to that—and you’ve got a legend.
Now, the sporting world holds its breath, hoping this fearless adventurer makes yet another remarkable comeback.
After all, mountains may be tough—but Laura Dahlmeier has always been tougher.
