Thinking about cozying up to BRICS? You might want to think again—at least if Donald Trump has his way.
The U.S. president just announced a new 10% tariff on any country backing BRICS policies that clash with American interests.
His message? Loud and clear: “There will be no exceptions.”
This isn’t Trump’s first jab at the BRICS bloc—home to China, Russia, and India—but it’s certainly his most direct.
What’s The Deadline?
Countries now have until August 1 to make a deal or face the penalty. And the clock’s ticking.
“We’ve seen a flood of new offers overnight,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, noting a sudden shift in tone from many nations.
So far, only the UK, Vietnam, and partially China have secured agreements.
Trump’s aggressive tariff wave began earlier this year, capped with April’s “Liberation Day” taxes—some as high as 50%.

Though some were paused for negotiation, others stuck, including a provisional 10% tax.
Europe’s scrambling to cut deals too.
Ursula von der Leyen reportedly had a “good exchange” with Trump, and talks are underway to ease tariffs on EU cars and steel.
“Letters are going out,” Trump said. “The tariffs are going to be tariffs.”
For now, the world waits—and negotiates.
