The former U.S. President has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that’s already spread to his bones.
It’s a tough diagnosis. A Gleason score of 9 out of 10 means the cancer is high-grade and likely to spread fast.
But there’s a silver lining: doctors say it’s hormone-sensitive, which means it can still be managed effectively.
“This isn’t curable, but it is treatable,” explained Dr. William Dahut of the American Cancer Society.
“Many people live years—even decades—with this diagnosis.”
Broad Political Support
Support poured in across the political spectrum.
Donald Trump wished Biden a “fast and successful recovery.”
Kamala Harris called him a “fighter,” and Barack Obama noted, “No one’s done more for cancer research than Joe.”
Biden has long championed cancer initiatives, especially since losing his son Beau to brain cancer in 2015.
Now, he’s on the other side of the fight.
It’s a reminder that even former presidents aren’t immune to life’s hardest blows.
