In a plot twist straight out of a Wes Anderson flick, the bronze statue of Melania Trump that once stood proudly in her Slovenian hometown has vanished.
It left only a pair of bronze feet and a lonely tree stump behind. Talk about a dramatic exit.
The statue, erected on the banks of the River Sava in Sevnica, replaced a previous wooden version.
That version went up in flames on the Fourth of July, 2020.
That first sculpture—crafted by local chainsaw artist Ales “Maxi” Zupevc—was torched after just a year.
Fortunately, American artist Brad Downey had a bronze backup ready.
Who’s The Suspect?
Downey, who created the piece to provoke questions about immigration and identity, suspects politics may be at play.
“It probably has something to do with Trump getting re-elected,” he said, suggesting the statue’s vanishing act isn’t random.
Local police have launched a theft investigation.
Town officials, meanwhile, seem unfazed.
“The image of the US First Lady was not something anyone was proud of,” they shrugged.
