Massive Gas Explosion From An Unknown Source Shakes Malaysia

A terrifying fireball erupted into the sky Tuesday morning after a gas pipeline exploded near a gas station.

The explosion rocked the neighborhood in Putra Heights, just outside Kuala Lumpur.

The inferno, reaching 20 stories high at its peak, spread rapidly to nearby homes, leaving over 100 people injured and dozens of houses damaged.

Explosion Happened on Muslim Holiday

The explosion, which occurred around 8:10 a.m. on a public holiday, sent shockwaves through the neighborhood as residents, many celebrating Eid, felt their homes tremble.

“I rushed outside, but the heat was unbearable. My ceiling collapsed, crushing my car,” said Lee Weng Ken, who suffered burns to his leg.

Authorities scrambled to contain the blaze. Petronas, Malaysia’s national oil company, confirmed the fire started at one of its gas pipelines.

112 People Injured

However, it took hours before firefighters could get close enough to control the raging flames.

Selangor officials evacuated residents to nearby mosques, while emergency teams worked to shut pipeline valves and fully extinguish the fire.

According to Selangor Deputy Police Chief Mohamad Zaini Abu Hassan, at least 112 people were hurt, with 63 hospitalized for burns and breathing issues.
