After six agonizing days, the bodies of three missing U.S. soldiers have been found.
The bodies were found in a muddy swamp near Pabradė, Lithuania, where they were participating in military drills.
A fourth soldier remains unaccounted for, with search efforts still underway.
“These soldiers were more than just servicemen—they were family,” said Maj. Gen.
Christopher Norrie of U.S. Army Europe and Africa. “But the mission isn’t over until everyone is home.”
What Happened?
The four soldiers vanished on March 25 while operating an M88A2 Hercules, a heavy armored recovery vehicle, during a training mission.
Their vehicle was later discovered submerged in a bog near the Belarusian border, setting off a grueling recovery effort.
U.S. Navy divers battled thick mud and zero visibility to attach cables to the sunken vehicle.
However, as they attempted to pull it out, two additional recovery vehicles began sinking, prompting the deployment of bulldozers, excavators, and hundreds of tons of gravel.
Lithuania, a NATO ally, has mourned alongside the U.S., with President Gitanas Nausėda offering condolences to President Trump and the American people.
