Egg Heist Shocks Pennsylvania Amid Soaring Prices

pennsylvania egg heist

In a bizarre twist to the nation’s egg crisis, thieves in Pennsylvania made off with 100,000 eggs from the back of a distribution trailer.

The heist takes place right as prices are skyrocketing and shelves are emptying.

The egg bandits struck around 8:40 p.m. Saturday in Antrim Township, targeting a Pete & Gerry’s Organics trailer.

The Background Story

Police are turning to the public for leads as no arrests have been made at the moment.

“I’ve never heard of 100,000 eggs being stolen,” said state trooper Megan Frazer. “This is definitely unique.”

The timing is suspicious. Fueled by bird flu wiping out millions of chickens, a nationwide egg shortage has sent prices soaring.

A dozen eggs now cost an average of $4.15, and the USDA warns prices could jump another 20% this year.

Even Waffle House—a restaurant famous for keeping prices steady—now charges an extra 50 cents per egg.

But for now, Pennsylvania police have a mystery to crack: Who stole enough eggs to supply a small army—and where are they hiding them?
