64 Feared Dead After American Airlines Collides With US Army Helicopter

A tragedy unfolded near Washington, D.C. when an American Airlines regional jet collided midair with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter.

The jet, carrying 64 people, crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport left scores feared dead, with officials yet to confirm an exact death toll.

All Passengers Feared Dead

At least 18 bodies had been recovered by early Thursday morning, and one of the plane’s black boxes had been found.

Dive teams were still pulling bodies from the icy waters, and officials were working to piece together the exact cause of the crash.

Officials told the BBC that “no one is believed to have survived”, meaning all passengers have perished. 

American Airlines CEO said they were investigating what really happened.

What Happened?

The incident unfolded around 9:00 p.m. local time (02:00 GMT), and the results were devastating.

The passenger plane, a Bombardier CRJ700, broke into several pieces and sank into the frigid waters of the Potomac River.

Meanwhile the helicopter, a Sikorsky H-60, flipped over and landed upside down.
