Dictator Ruling Belarus Since 1994 Stuns The World Yet Again

Belarusian strongman Alexander Lukashenko has once again clung to power, winning an election widely denounced by Western leaders as a mockery of democracy.

According to the Central Election Committee, Lukashenko secured a staggering 86.8% of the vote, with turnout just shy of 87%.

But with opposition leaders either jailed or exiled and no credible challengers on the ballot, critics say the outcome was predetermined.

Not a single independent observer monitored the vote.

World Reacts

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas slammed the election as a blatant insult to democracy.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock bluntly remarked that “the people of Belarus had no choice.”

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Lukashenko on his “solid victory,” calling the election “legitimate and transparent.”

Leaders from China, Venezuela, and Pakistan joined in their praise.

Lukashenko, now entering his seventh term since 1994, brushed off Western criticism.

“We never forced anyone out,” he told the BBC. “I couldn’t care less whether [the West] recognizes our election.”
