As the US watched a new administration rise, a sermon at the Washington National Cathedral boldly challenged President Trump on his controversial policies.
The Right Rev. Mariann Budde, Episcopal bishop of Washington, stood before Trump, First Lady Melania, and JD Vance during an inaugural prayer service, urging compassion.
What Did The Bishop Say?
“There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives,” she said while looking straight at the President.
Her plea didn’t stop there: “In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people in our country who are scared now.”
Trump Dismissed The Service
Later, Trump dismissed the service saying “I didn’t think it was a good service.
They could do much better,” before walking away.
The incident occurred a day after Mr. Trump signed dozens of executive orders on immigration, gender, climate change, and 6 January rioters.
