Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is taking a bold stand against TikTok.
The leader announced on Saturday that the government will block the social media platform for a year starting in 2025.
The Prime Minister mentioned a contrast in content between what is shown in China and the one shown in other countries.
PM Calls TikTok Thug of The Neighborhood
Speaking to Tirana’s teachers, parents, and psychologists, Rama labeled TikTok as “the thug of the neighborhood.”
He declared, “We are going to chase this thug out of our neighborhood for one year,” and promised new programs to support student education.
PM Highlighted Different TikToks
The interesting thing Rama noticed was the difference in content between the Chinese mainland version and the content seen in other countries.
“In China, TikTok teaches students about courses, traditions, and protecting nature.
Outside China, it’s all scum and mud. Why do we need this?” he asked.
