Sleep Expert Warns Against This Common Mistake When Waking At Night

If you often find yourself waking up in the middle of the night, a sleep expert has revealed one thing you should absolutely avoid: checking the time.

Dr. Biquan Luo, CEO of LumosTech, warns that glancing at the clock can spike stress levels, making it even harder to drift back to sleep.

And if you’re reaching for your phone? Bad idea.

Dr. Biquan is also the CEO of LumosTech to help people sleep.

“The contents of the phone may be too stimulating, further preventing relaxation,” Dr. Luo told the New York Post.

Scrolling through TikTok at 3 a.m. might sound tempting, but it’s only going to keep you awake longer.

What To Do Instead

Instead, if you’ve been awake for more than 10-15 minutes, Dr. Luo suggests getting out of bed.

Find a quiet, cozy spot and try something calming, like reading or light stretching, until you feel sleepy again.

It might feel counterintuitive, but taking a mindful approach to midnight wake-ups could mean better sleep in the long run
