Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has been suspended in Brazil since August for not complying with court orders.
The suspension occurred due to X’s failure to moderate hate speech and appoint a legal representative in the country, both legal requirements.
Failed Payment Delays Reinstatement
X attempted to pay the $5.24 million in fines required to lift its suspension in Brazil, but the funds were sent to the wrong bank account.
This mistake has delayed the Supreme Court’s decision to restore the platform’s services.
The court has asked for the payment to be correctly processed before considering the platform’s return to service.
Steps Toward Compliance
In recent weeks, X has made efforts to comply with Brazil’s laws, such as blocking certain accounts and attempting to meet court demands.
Despite this, the company is still awaiting approval to resume its services. The Brazilian prosecutor general’s opinion is now required before further action is taken.
