US & British Nationals Among 37 Sentenced To Death By DR Congo Court

Three US citizens among 37 were sentenced to death by a military court in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for their involvement in a failed coup attempt in May 2024.

The Americans, Marcel Malanga, Tyler Thompson, and Benjamin Zalman-Polun, were found guilty of charges including criminal conspiracy and terrorism.

Those sentenced to death include a Belgian, a British, a Canadian national and several Congolese that took part in the failed coup.

US National Led The Coup

The coup, led by Christian Malanga, a US-based Congolese politician, saw armed men briefly occupy an office of the presidency in Kinshasa before Malanga was killed by security forces.

Christian Malanga was shot dead by security forces, Reuters reported.

The three Americans traveled all the way from the US to Congo to participate in the coup but it failed disastrously.

The US and Britain said they are following the developments without providing extra information.
