A homeless man burst into tears when he heard that he was getting an apartment for returning $10,000 to its owner.
Elmer Alvarez had nowhere to go and wandered on streets when he stumbled upon the check.
The check belonged to Roberta Hoskie, a real estate broker in New Connecticut, who was so impressed by Elmer’s honesty that she not only paid for housing for seven months, but also made sure he was well-off financially.
Roberta Wrote a Book About Elmer
After their first meeting, the pair began working together on real estate projects and Elmer was admitted to a real estate school.
Roberta, who owns a multi-million dollar real estate company, founded Outreach Foundation with Elmer and made him the advisor of the house.
Since then, the organization has helped 15 families find accommodation in a two-family house.
The real estate broker wrote about her encounter with Elmer in her book “Poverty Curse Broken: The Roberta Hoskie Story”.
