A secret Russian court has sentenced yet another US journalist for covering the country’s war in Ukraine, the CBS News reported.
The report mentioned that the journalist Alsu Kurmasheva from the U.S. government-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty was jailed for allegedly spreading false information about the Russian military fighting in Ukraine.
Two US Journalists Convicted on Same Day
Alsu Kurmasheva, a Russian-American journalist was sentenced to 6 1⁄2 years in prison, media reports reported.
The conviction came on the same day when Wall Street journalist Evan Gershkovich was sentenced.
Mr. Gershkovich was arrested over espionage and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
US Embassy Calls For Freedom
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow called over the Russian authorities to free all journalists and activists detained since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The United States government and other independent western press considers the sentences as politically motivated to crack down on dissent.
