Russia has warned of serious escalation in Ukraine’s war if the United States deploys cruise missiles in Germany.
The warning came after reports of the US deploying Tomahawk cruise missiles in Germany that have a range of more than 2,500 kilometers, falling short of Moscow.
NATO Stationing Missiles
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO countries agreed in a recent summit to deploy Tomahawk cruise missiles in Germany by 2026 as a deterrent against Russia.
The White House said in a joint statement that the missiles ‘will include SM-6, Tomahawk, and developmental hypersonic weapons’ without mentioning Russia.
Russia Warns
The spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded that Moscow will target European capitals, without elaborating on how.
He said that the US was undermining peace in Europe and wanted to drag the region into a new era of the Cold War.
Germany, on the other hand, hailed NATO’s decision to deploy weapons as a means of securing peace.
