Musk aims to enable Full Self Driving (FSD) features in China and use local data to train Tesla’s algorithms, a capability not yet in China.
Musk is Visiting Amid Accidents
During a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness for deep cooperation with China to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
The visit follows a recent US report linking Tesla’s autonomous driving modes to at least 13 accidents, including one fatality.
Elon Musk held meetings with key Chinese officials to cement a long standing partnership as he praised his hardworking Chinese Engineers working in the company.
China is Tesla’s second-largest market, and other automakers like Xpeng, based in Guangzhou, are competing by introducing similar self-driving functionalities in their vehicles.
