Meta To Label Digitally Altered Content Made With AI

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, revealed significant changes with regards to AI-generated content ahead of crucial elections in November.

Meta will start flagging content, (both images and videos), that are produced using AI.

Meta To Label Content

Starting in May, Meta will introduce “Made with AI” labels for AI-generated videos, images, and audio shared on Facebook and Instagram.

Previously, the policy focused on a limited scope of manipulated videos but now it will include images as well.

Monika Bickert, the vice president of content policy at Meta, outlined these updates in a blog post.

WhatsApp Will Follow Different Guidelines

These labeling changes will affect content on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, while other Meta services like WhatsApp and Quest virtual-reality headsets will follow different guidelines.

These alterations arrive ahead of the US presidential election in November, where researchers anticipate an increased use of generative AI technologies in political campaigns.

Meta’s recent oversight board review criticized the existing rules on manipulated media as “incoherent” after a misleading video of Joe Biden circulated on Facebook.
