The Chinese government has warned the US that a ban on TikTok will have serious consequences.
China accused the US of “suppressing TikTok” without finding any compelling evidence that the app poses any significant threat to US national security.
TikTok users in the US have argued that the app poses no threat to their security but the lawmakers are concerned about TikTok affiliation with the Chinese government.
China Warns US Over TikTok Ban
The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said the US is bent on banning TikTok after it “never found evidence that TikTok threatens national security”.
So far, China has not revealed what consequences the US will have to face in case of an all-out ban on TikTok.
Mr. Wang added that the decision will “come back to bite the United States itself.”
Chinese media accused the US government of using the pretext of national security to pressure foreign companies to sell stakes.
On Wednesday, the bill passed with bipartisan support, forcing TikTok to sell stakes to US firms or face a complete ban.
