Scientists Create World’s Smallest & Lightest Micro-Robots

Scientists at Washington State University have created the world’s smallest and lightest microrobots.

The microrobots are fully functional, and scientists can use them for pollination in the near future.

The challenging thing to make such tiny robots is to fit advanced tech material into significantly compromised space, something which the researchers did pretty well in this case.

The Robots Are Fast

Conor Trygstad, a PhD student and a lead author of the study, said the microrobots are faster than previously created machines.

Conor said the secret lies in the way scientists managed to fit tiny actuators that make the robots move.

Conor noted that the researchers used a new fabrication method to minimize the size of the actuator down to less than a milligram.

The tiny robots were able to lift 150 times more weight than their own.

Scientists created two samples, each weighing around eight milligrams and the other weighing 55 milligrams.
