Helicopter Carrying Five US Marines Goes Missing in California

A helicopter carrying five marines went missing in southern California.

The BBC reported that authorities are searching for the missing chopper but the snow-covered mountains are making it difficult.

The helicopter that went missing is the CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter, the largest helicopter in the military arsenal.

Helicopter Found

The civilian authorities in the air found the helicopter dumped near the mountain community of Pine Valley, around 70 kilometres from San Diago.

Media reports said the harsh weather made it challenging for the authorities to access the helicopter.

Defense officials told the Associated Press that the Marines were flying from Creech Air Force Base to their home to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.

Fate of those Onboard Unknown

Search and rescue operation is still underway to locate the missing marines.

“The search efforts have been hindered by heavy snow and wintry conditions in the area”, the BBC reported.

National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said they are watching the situation closely.
